TEST FOR THE PRESENCE OF SUGAR

TEST FOR THE PRESENCE OF                            SUGAR

Introduction :

By doing this experiment  we can know the food item which we eat contains how much the sugar content is...

Materials  Needed:

Test tube

Dropper
Benedict's solution

Procedure:

Step-1:
Take a small amount of food sample, crush if the food sample is in solid form and put it in the test tube.

Step-2:
Add some water to test tube and shake it.

Step-3:
Add a few drops of Benedict's solution to the test tube. Heat it for about  one minute.

We can observe the changes occur depending on the sugar content present  in the taken food sample.
Actually the Benedict's solutuon will be blue in colour

If the food sample contains low sugar content it turns into green colour.
If the food sample contains medium sugar content it turns into yellow colour.
If the food sample  contains high sugar  content  it turns into brick-red colour.

Conclusion :
The change in colour confirms the presence of sugar.
